This album almost had something. 'On the way up' was played in an audition we went to where they wouldn't let Ian or Alex (our new guitarist) plug their instruments in as the sound system was too delicate. Needless to say we didn't get the gig. Moonlight and Neon was our first Bryan Adams tribute (the other was 'I would never walk away from you'). We weren't a rock band but we tried with this song. 'Me without you' had a lyric in the original demo (changed later) which was 'like a Southerner without Shandy' - whilst amusing, didn't really go with the heartfelt ballad it was meant to be. We'd written 204 songs by the time we wrote '205'. An explanation of why we'd written 95% of them between March 1995 and October 1999.
'Deep' and 'Leaving' were written on an aeroplane - the first lyrics written at 25,000 feet! The album is currently MIA and the surviving demo tape doesn't have either of these songs on it so I've completely forgotten how they even sounded. Maybe they could have both been worldwide smashes? 'Don't listen' is MIA too but I remember it was about how much faith we had that any of our songs would ever reach the ears of someone who could open them to a wider audience. Thank the lord for Spotify... 14 years later.
