Fear 2

Released : December 1994

Personnel

Peter Nuttall - Music/Lyrics/Vocals
Douglas Hunter - Lyrics
Michael Walton - Music/Guitar

There were a few left over songs from the 1992-1994 sessions that didn’t get to go on ‘Fear’ so this was a mop up of those padded out with a few cover versions. There are two Gary Numan songs and one Gary Numan-sounding song in ‘We are Dreams’. There’s also a cover of Erasure’s Perfect Stranger for some reason. I’d written ‘Poor Baby’ not long after seeing Tears for Fears in concert. They’d played ‘Raoul and the Kings of Spain’ which wouldn’t be released until around October 1995 but I kinda stole the chorus from what I could remember of it.

Lyrics

I thought I knew who I was
But there’s a stranger in the mirror
These people who talk to me at last
Help me see things even clearer than that
I don’t know how to find my fear

My mind lets me down
When there’s no one around
To discover the only sound
Was the only thrill

Talk to me now
And show me how
To live life out loud
In our short existence

Grab life make a stand
Take fear by the hand
Take it far from dry land
Drowned, now we can dance.

Lyrics/Music – Nuttall

Admiration, a picture of you
Contemplation, and all I knew
Your affection; could it be shared?
My perfection and loving dared

Frustration, my life sorted out
Temptation is what it’s all about
I was scared I didn’t know what to say
In case you cared for me today

Chorus
In my mind I can live in the past
Then I find good memories, they don’t last

Found comfort in another love
Make a decision, give yourself a gentle shove

Time to pass, time to move on
Hopes dashed and my blues well they’re all gone

I see inside your mind and I see that you’re lonely
But this time I find that it’s me who’s lonely

Lyrics/Music – Nuttall

This time
I know

We lie
Alone

But I can’t feel
The same

But I won’t leave
Through that door

I close my eyes
What do I see?

I feel love
And it washes over me

Lyrics – Nuttall
Music – Walton/Nuttall

We are dreams, why can’t we be
Oh so sure?
Nowhere we’ve been, together alone
Oh so sure
Lost control, I lost you
We can’t leave
To lie to you, and trust in me
Can’t make it believe

No more ‘us’, no more ‘me’
No more ‘love’
I fall down, to the ground
We lost love
Our time is through, it’s much too late
I’ve given up
Too much love, too much hate
It’s not the way

Chorus
Frozen water
The ice of life
Son and daughter
Lost by the knife

Dark corners see
I sit here
You reflect me
Shed a tear

Lyrics/Music – Nuttall

Lonely guy’s gotta have this girl
She don’t seem to understand
To him she means the whole world
She don’t feel the same way about this man

He only wants to speak to her for a while
That’s all he wants to do just talk
Before he gives a nervous smile , she turns to walk and says

Chorus
Poor baby, Poor baby, Poor baby
Finding the right one can be so tough
Poor baby, Poor baby, Poor baby
Always looking for that special love

I know more than this lonely guy
You know I been ‘round enough to see
I gave up looking for reasons why
I look after number one that’s me
Lost all my style, lost all my class
I’ve found a brand new craving
Found it at the bottom of a glass
Now everyone looks and says…

Chorus 2
Poor baby, Poor baby, Poor baby
Still crawling down that road called life
Poor baby, Poor baby. Poor baby
Be happy just to get through one more night
